Before Xtreme Turf began, Caleb worked at a local agricultural co-op, where he gained extensive hands-on experience with seed, fertilizer, and crop protection products. Agriculture has always remained a part of his life, and he continues to be involved with his family’s farming operation today.

That background eventually led to an opportunity to build something of his own.

Xtreme Turf began when we purchased the fertilizing and spraying side of Hiscocks Enterprises in Britt, Iowa. With the purchase came an established customer list and two stand-on applicators, and we began operating under the name Xtreme Turf.

It didn’t take long for the business to grow beyond fertilizer and weed control. The following year, we added hydroseeding. As we took on more seeding projects, we quickly realized that a successful new lawn often starts long before the seed goes down. That led us into grading, dirt work, and lawn preparation, allowing us to handle more of each project from start to finish.

Tree work officially became part of the business in 2026. Before that, Caleb was a partner in Arbor Xperts Inc. As Xtreme Turf continued to grow, the business was beginning to keep us busy throughout the entire summer rather than primarily during the traditional lawn application seasons. Caleb decided to step away from Arbor Xperts and bring the tree equipment and services into Xtreme Turf.

With that change came a new name: Xtreme Turf & Tree.

Although the businesses are now separate, we continue to have a great working relationship with Arbor Xperts and frequently work together when projects call for additional climbing or crane capabilities.

Today, Xtreme Turf & Tree remains a small, hands-on operation. Caleb and Kenny handle the day-to-day field work, while Morgan keeps things moving behind the scenes, taking care of paperwork, accounts payable and receivable, and many of the administrative details that keep the business running.

Caleb and Morgan were married in 2017, and Xtreme Turf & Tree has very much become a part of the life they’ve built together. They don’t have children, but their Goldendoodle, Hattie, does a pretty good job of filling that role and is never too far from the action.

What started with a customer list and two applicators has grown into a business offering lawn applications, hydroseeding, lawn installation and dirt preparation, and professional tree care. Most of that growth wasn’t part of some big plan from the beginning. We simply kept adding capabilities as the need was there, investing in the right equipment, and finding better ways to take care of our customers.

That’s still how we approach the business today.
